Canyon Mist 6X9in. SOLD

Only last week I spent a couple very cold days at the Grand Canyon. I created this little painting as a study for a larger version I hope to create. It posed many challenges...creating brightness on a dreary day, mist rising from the canyon, and parts of the rocky cliff that were obscured by a wall in my photo. I tackled all the problems and can't wait to start the larger version!!

Dinner Drama 6X9 in. $165 framed

It's great that I get to live at the base of the Sandia mountains, but it's even better that from my kitchen, I can watch the mountain light change throughout the day. When I was cooking dinner a couple weeks ago, the clouds lit up like this right outside my window.

Spot of Sun 6X9in. SOLD

This painting shows part of the Rio Grande gorge near Taos. It had been a rainy night, followed by a cloudy, dreary day, but just as I looked, the sun broke through and lit up this one small patch of land.

The Beginning 6X9in. SOLD

This image is from a hike to the higher points of Piedra Lisa trail in the Sandia Mountains. I was trying to capture the early morning light, but it was actually on the way back that this image of the day's beginning struck me.

Placitas Exit 6X9in. SOLD

I've been passing this spot north of Albuquerque for a while. I knew that someday the arrangement of mountains and foothills would be lit just right. This rainy day, I waited for the sun to pop out from between the clouds and loved the streak of light through the center of the scene.

High Noon at the Arroyo 6X9in. SOLD

I saw this image a couple years ago while driving north and west of Albuquerque. Usually mid-day light is not very inspiring, but this scene had a lot going for it and I enjoyed trying to capture the stark light of noon.

Top of the Tram 6X9in. SOLD

The tram to the top of the Sandias is said to be the world's longest. I'm not sure if that means one of the spans is the longest or the whole length altogether. Either way, you a fantastic views on the ride up and also from the top. This view is looking southwest, over Bear Canyon Arroyo and into the distance.

Sunrise Colors 6X9in. SOLD

For a long time I avoided paintings New Mexico sunrises or sunsets because I thought people elsewhere would think I was making them up. But, having a sunrise or sunset with every color of the rainbow is not unusual. This one is for real!

Piedra Lisa Winter 6X9in. SOLD

Driving east on Tramway Road is my favorite way to come home. Often the highest parts of the Sandia mountains dominate the view, but every once in a while, the best scene is looking north towards Piedra Lisa trail This day it looked like winter was in the background and spring was in front.

Final Glow 6X9in. SOLD

This is one of my favorite scenes in the Sandia mountains. The sun is going down, the clouds block out much of the late day sunshine on the ridge, but one patch of the beautiful glow is left. It is a magic moment!
